Under the influence of the outer subsiding air of Severe Tropical Storm Bilis, locally it was sunny and very hot today. The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory in the afternoon was 34.0 degrees, the highest so far this year. Temperatures over parts of the New Territories even reached 36 degrees. The rainband associated with Bilis is expected to bring heavy rain to the south China coastal areas over the weekend.

At 11 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Bilis was centred about 40 kilometres east-southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour, skirting the northern part of Taiwan and moving towards the coast of southeastern China.

The outer circulation of Bilis is expected to bring heavy rain to southern China over the weekend.

At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Bilis was centred about 1330 kilometres southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the seas east of Taiwan.
